Hi, Flora,
PIS works great for me, too. I have three pumps: Medela's manual pump,
mini-electric and PIS. Manual ones take time and strength. I only use it
when I am out or something. I left my mini-electric at home in case I need
to pump milk from my left side (My daughter simply refuses to latch on on my
left side. It is inverted.) Mini-electric is not as comfortable as PIS
because it pulls too hard, and is not as efficient as PIS.
PIS is quiet and comfortable. I sometimes feel that it gets more milk from
me than my baby does (When she feels full, she just stops). I think it is
worth every penny.

I remember that stage of Vivi. Because she nursed so often, I refused to
spend that much time in the boring bedroom, so I stayed put in front of the
TV and let her do what she wanted. Eventually, she figured out she could
watch TV AND nurse, if she turned her head round after latching on. DH
looked pained when he saw it, but I hardly felt it. I guess my nipples
were too used to her maltreatment by then to register any pain. ;)
She went through many more stages, but I pretty much took a laissez-faire
attitude to everything. Maybe that's how she became such an acrobatic
nurser who expected to be able to nurse anytime, anywhere, whatever she
happened to be doing.

Well...I went to the gynae yesterday and everything is right on schedule
(phew)!! I was worried because my colleague who's due the same time as me says
that she can feel the movements for sometime already. The gynae said not to
worry, as I'm more, ahem, "padded" than her, it's only natural that I feel the
movements a bit later. I have more insulations, you see :-)
He thinks (but can't confirm it for sure) that it's a girl !!! YIPEE!

Wow!! Almost Painless????? I was induced and gone through 12 hours of
hard labour!! I got stuck at 5 cm so ended up in a c-section. The only
hour that I felt great about my labour was when my epidural was in in
place. I'm really jealous about U!! :-)

Luckily for me, lots of ppl in the net hv been warning abt
this stage. Guess I've to be more patience and keep offering
to bf though each session can stretch for hours.

She's very easily distracted by the tv. So what I do is
either to turn off the tv and on the radio instead or to
place one hand in front of her eyes though she'll struggle
to find ways to get rid of my hand.
She'll only want to be fed after 9pm on our bedroom with the
air-con on. Else will make a big fuss.
Is there a stage when they'll reduce their amount of milk
feed? Waiting for solids? My aunt just complain that she
refuse to take her 6pm feed and that she seems to be not
gaining weight (maybe face not as plump?). Just told her
might be nursing strike, nothing to be worried abt, just to
prevent her from nagging and nagging. Had a long talk abt
starting solids. Luckily no one at home except my DH is in
flavour of starting her on solids.
Also her bfing at nite takes abt 2 hrs. She'll suck a while
then wants to play and come back for more. Not sure if she's
enough milk but seems to last thru the nite. The early
morning feed was ok and still the usual half hour.

Actually I have a TV in my bedroom. If I get bored, I just have it on on a
low volume. Daniel will accept that b/c the room is familiar enough to be
"boring" to him and he won't look around as much. If I bf in the Living
Room, that's difficult. Very very "Kay Poh". He'd rather play than bf. I
do wish he'd bf & watch TV like Vivi! Tried to "train" him sometime back.
Didn't quite work. It was either this or that! ;) Stubborn boy.
I also read books/magazines while bf'g. Also clean Daniel's ears, cut his
nails! My, my, I think sometimes if he's tired enough, I could even
perform minor surgery on him while bf'g! ;)
When Daniel was younger, I'd bf & surf the 'net. That WAS interesting. But
alas, that stage couldn't last longer!

Not that I know of / observed! Daniel still bfs quite as frequently as he
did when he was 4mo and exclusively bf (ie, not taking solids). Only he
does it much faster, like 10mins instead of 20mins.
Sorry, I have Absolutely NO IDEA how much he drinks, since he bfs directly
these days. Even previously when I went out, my maid would simply take a
small 4oz bottle of ebm to feed him ("lazy" to feed him more ebm, I think).
That's just to fill his tummy up first until I came home to feed him again!
Of course if Daniel complained, then she'd just warm another bottle for him.
When I was away on holiday (without baby) in December, I think Daniel drank
like 6 to 7oz each time.
< My aunt just complain that she

Maybe Sheralyn's just not hungry? I know DAniel has bf about every 2 hrs
during the day, but in the late afternoon, he bf at approx 4pm after his nap
and doesn't bf again until 8pm!
He'd rather go to the playground to play at 6pm. I've been bringing him
since he was 6wks old and now, if 6pm comes by and he's still at home, he
actually fusses, and goes to the door!

Daniel does (or rather DID, patterns come & go!) about the same thing.
Evening feed is a "marathon feed". I think it's to stock up for the night.

OUCH! I'm hoping to avoid one if possible, but depends on the OB I
suppose. I read that the pushing position help give some extra cm for
the baby to come out. This is either squatting or semi-reclined with
knees bent back. Other positions like lying down with stirrups or on
the side don't help too much unless the baby is still high up. Just
curious what position you used for pushing.
Lai Chang, did you write a birth plan before birth? If so, did it help
at all? My doctor says he will go over my birth plan at the 34 wk appt,
but not sure how much it helps.

Actually I remember Jude (used to be on this list) mentioning that she used
AVENT ISIS and that it was good. But then, she doesn't work!
I've heard that the ISIS is AS GOOD AS the PIS. Only setback is that it
doesn't double-pump. Double-pumping apparently increases prolactin levels
thus you produce more milk. Of course, double-pumping also saves time since
you can pump both breasts at the SAME TIME!
So, it also depends on how much time you have for pumping at work. I think
the PIS would still do it faster than the ISIS (one breast at one time).
How long does it take you all - May, Guek Har, Rita?
I think it's be good to have the ISIS for when you want to do "pump & nurse"
at the same time. That is, for eg. at the 1st morning feed when there's
lots of milk, you can bf one side & pump the other side. That's possible
b/c the ISIS is a One-Handed pump. I used to do that, but that was before
the ISIS was out. I used a PUR one-handed pump then.
The ISIS would probably be a good pump to have around in case of "blackout"!

That's strange about KK refusing to an ultrasound at 8 mo. When I was
there my OB told me they usually do a 3rd one about 7-8 mo, or 32 wks.
Anyway, maybe it's better not to do so many unless there are any
problems. I agree about the lines being too long at KK (and probably
other govt hospitals). Sometimes I would wait over an hour for my appt
(if I cannot get an early morning appt), then at least another 1/2 hour
to schedule the next appt and pay the bill. In the private clinic I go
to now, there is usually not much wait. As for foreigner surcharge, I
did not pay 30% extra for the consultations, but for delivery the cost
for foreigners is almost double! A friend of mine who went there said
she booked an A1 room months in advance, but she was put in a B4 room
because there were no other beds available at the time.

Before I bought PIS, I used to use mini electric from Medela. I used two at work
(imagine the racket I was making). But it was excellent for feed 'n pump.
PIS is good. I can collect about 5oz in 10-15 minutes. Mini Electric is much better
for travelling though. I do have a soft spot for it as I've been using it longer
than PIS.

Flora, this happens even in Private Hospitals. If it so happens that soooo
many mothers delivered those few days and ALL of them had prebooked A1
rooms, then there simply won't be any available for you! ;)
It happened when I delivered Sarah at Eastshore. I booked a 2-bedded, but
there was none available that day, so I went to a 4-bedded. They promised
to shift me when one was available. But by then, I couldn't be bothered to
move! Such a hassle! Afterall, only staying a few days, right?
